The mission of the Inner City Youth Development Association is to provide inner city youth with programs that promote and facilitate
positive behavior, creative expression, and cooperative working skills. We exist to foster independence and responsibility in our youth empowering them with their own desires to become active, constructive, caring members of the community.
In our programs, the values of trust, respect cooperation, non-violence, form the core of all activities. When these values are reinforced with active listening, counseling, referrals when necessary, and a sound academic and arts-based education, youth are able to become active, constructive, and caring members of the community.
Bridging The Digital
Divide
The
difference between the suburbs and the
inner
city in regard to computer
literacy
is the
so
called "Digital
Divide".
To be on the less fortunate side of the divide means that there is less
opportunity to take part in our new information-based economy, in which
many more jobs are related to computers. It also means that there is less
opportunity to take part in the education, training, shopping,
entertainment and communications opportunities that are available on-line.
Now that a large number of Canadians
regularly use the Internet to conduct daily activities, people who lack
access to those tools are at a growing disadvantage.
Therefore, raising
the level of digital inclusion by increasing the number of
youth
using the technology tools of the digital age is an important
goal.
Our work looks to:
Expand programming to reach more youth while providing quality education and tutoring.
Developing our curriculum to provide solid computer technology education to the
youth.
Partnering with organizations, companies, community centers, etc., to promote quality technology education to
youth.
Building awareness of our organization to facilitate efficient and effective growth.
Building our volunteer pool to always provide one-on-one tutoring to youth
in need.
Building a Board of Directors to assist the organization with fund
raising initiatives.
