Throughout it’s history the Inner City Youth Development Association
(formerly the Inner City Drama Association
(1986)) has created opportunities for
Edmonton's inner city youth to understand and overcome the harsh realities of their environment. During the late 1980s and early 1990 this understanding was realized through the use of popular theatre. We offered popular theatre programs to several groups of inner city youth. The groups used theatre as vehicle to deal with issues that had impacted their lives and blocked their development. Scenes and problems from our weekly meetings were often taken out to the greater community as popular theatre performances.
